The Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club one of the oldest women's art clubs in the country was founded in 1896 in honor of Miss Wolfe, a prominent New York philanthropist and art collector.  She was the only woman among the 106 founders of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.  The club's home is the historic Grace Church on Broadway in New York City.  The club's original function was to provide aid and counsel to women art students who found life in New York a struggle.  In the 1950's the club's focus shifted to serving women artists of professional standing.  Today the board meets monthly at the Grace Church Parish House.  It organizes exhibitions, plans for lectures, and other activities where the membership can meet and share ideas.  Today's members are represented in museums, gallereies, and prestigious art collections all over the world.  Elayne is so pleased to be included in the 114th Open Annual Competition. The Benefit Reception is Oct. 15 from 5:30 to 8:00 pm at the National Arts Club.  A minimum $25 donation benefits the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Travel and Research Fund.

This exhibition of works in a variety of media by women artists from all over the United States was by juried admission and was not limited to members only.  The exhibition is open to the publice from Oct. 5 - 29, 2010.
